The Department of Social Work was founded in 1973 and it is affiliated to the Health Sciences Faculty of the Hellenic Mediterranean University. Its multiannual operation has contributed significantly to the acquisition of valuable knowledge and experience in the field of Social Work. The Department aims to educate social workers capable of meeting modern social needs so as to be employed in the social services. The training provided by the Department is characterized by:

• Specialization in the topic of Social Work through specialty courses.
• An interdisciplinary approach to Social Work through courses covering other social work-related fields.
• Internships in the profession. Through internships, students associate theoretical knowledge with the application of social work in real working conditions.

Education in Social Work, as in other anthropocentric sciences, requires the application of knowledge and the development of skills in real working conditions, bringing students into constant contact and interaction with individuals, social groups and the community.
The Department is European-oriented, through academic programmes for the exchange of students and professors but also through collaborations at educational and research level with European partners.
