The Department of Social Work is pleased to announce that Dr. Kleio Koutra, Associate Professor and Director of the Social Research in Social Work (SoRSoW) Lab, will participate in the International Trauma Recovery Conference 2026, an international event dedicated to promoting survivor-centered approaches to trauma recovery and advancing trauma-informed practice worldwide.
The conference is built upon a powerful message emerging from ten years of research conducted across 13 countries: “Recovery from emotional wounds is possible — trauma recovery is possible.” Bringing together researchers, practitioners, educators, survivors, and community leaders from around the world, the event will explore innovative approaches to supporting trauma recovery while recognizing survivors as the protagonists of their own healing journeys.
A key focus of the conference will be the introduction of Trauma Recovery Informed Practice (TRIP), a framework designed to support survivor-led recovery by honoring each individual’s right to determine their own pace, path, and direction. Participants will also engage with emerging practices that integrate technology, including artificial intelligence, as well as creative approaches utilizing photography and art to foster reflection, resilience, and healing.
Dr. Koutra’s participation reflects the ongoing commitment of the SoRSoW Lab and the Department of Social Work to advancing research, education, and practice that promote trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, and socially just approaches to mental health and well-being.
The conference will be held on July 20, 2026, in a hybrid format with Japanese-English simultaneous interpretation, enabling participation from audiences across the globe.
